“Mr. Rick is a fine fingerstyle guitar player and man; these boys can play!" Barry Hammond, Penguin Eggs
TORONTO – THURSDAY, MAY 29TH, 2008 – What’s on tap? Gutbucket country, sentimental old-tyme standards and a jug full of crackerjack originals: these are the delicious vintage sounds of Mr. Rick and the Biscuits’ soon-to-be-released third album, Whole Grain.
Mr. Rick and the Biscuits’ guitarist Luther Wheatstraw, bassist Josephus Jordan Burns, and Mr. Rick (Zolkower) on lead vocals and guitar, create a unique and timeless blend of rock'n'roll, western and hillbilly swing, gospel and Tin Pan Alley. Whether he’s crooning an old classic like “The Glory of Love”, getting in touch with his “Inner Jazzbo”, barking out his take on “Stagger Lee”, or indulging his crisp wit on originals like “Snap, Cracklin Pop”, Mr. Rick captures the raw energy and intimacy of a parlour room hoedown.
Whole Grain features standout performances from musical guests Drew Jurecka (violin), Neva Tesolin (accordion), and Rob Fenton (lapsteel guitar) – all of whom will also be at the CD release party, to add their grease to the skillet.

A cross-reference to the first overnight radio show placing a heavy emphasis on Canadian blues and fusions of same. Previously aired on CKCU 93.1 FM, and now on Saturday mornings at CHMR 93.5 FM. This blog's origins (which pre-date my radio broadcasting history) began as a free promotional tool for arts-related news. Obviously it is not a conventional online blog, i.e. diary, but I do insert my own narrations from time to time. See also http://nlbluessociety.blogspot.ca
