Virée Blues Boréale presents
Steve Marriner
Café Le Troquet, 41 Laval St , Gatineau (Old Hull sector) QC
Wednesday, April 2 @ 8 pm

From Alexandre Petit, Virée Blues Boréale:

Always in search of the best new internationally renowned Bluesmen, Virée Blues Boréale’s team is glad to present a kid from the Outaouais, namely Ottawa. Although less known on the Québec side, this young prodigious harmonica player, who also impresses with his mastery of the guitar and of the keyboard [and drums], has a pretty well-rounded career sheet, quite like Ricky Paquette’s.
Inspired by The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Hank Williams, George Jones and Muddy Waters, it is the famous Blues Brothers who triggered Steve’s drive to start playing the Blues, at age 10. Steve Marriner came out first at a prestigious harmonica contest, "Ottawa Harp Blow Off", when he was only 14. Following this success, the great Harry Manx, triple-Juno Award winner, invited Steve to perform with him at the famous Chicago Blues Festival 2004, where the standing ovation he received launched him in that adventure: The World of the Blues.
A harmonica player acknowledged by his peers, the 22-year-old has also been a guitarist for Harry Manx, JW Jones, The Junk Yard Dogs and Big Daddy G. He has already toured Canada, the USA, Australia and England. Now harmonica and keyboard player for Sue Foley, he still occasionally performs with Harry Manx on top of performing with his own band. His first album, Going Up, is a classic blues album presented with a modern approach. His talent again brought him nominations for ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Harmonica Player of the Year’ at the 2007 Maple Blues Awards.
An intensely energetic and powerful performer, Steve Marriner’s incorporation of various styles of Blues with that of rock ‘n’ roll has him night after night grabbing audiences from their seats and moving them to their feet.
