I was Jim Eaves bandleader during the summer of 1980 when we had a house gig on Yonge St. at a place called the Upper Lip, a former massage palour. We had a great band but I have absolutely no recordings of this group. If anyone has any tapes, and I know some were made, I would love to hear them.
Hey, Jim Lawlis. Michael Rosen, drummer, here. It's been about 35 years since I last saw you. If you remember, I played drums with the band (Jim Eaves & Headfirst) at the Upper Lip, and before that, at the Isabella Hotel. You're right that there are tapes - I made some (on cassette). It would take me a bit of time to dig them up, but I could do it, and I will, eventually. I have other tapes from later gigs as well, mostly played here in Los Angeles, where I've been living and playing for about 38 years. I realize your entry on this blog is about 10 years old, so I have no expectations that you'll even see this, but I'm into the possibility of it. Feel free to contact me, I suppose by responding to this comment. One more note, a sad one, is that Big Jim passed away in early 2004. He was as good a friend to me as a person could ever be. Looking forward to maybe connecting with you. Oh yeah, I shot that photo of Jim that you see above here in Los Angeles. The fellow who posted it, Bob Lee, was Jim's bass player here, and is a long time friend of mine. I'm going to smack him upside his head for not crediting the photo to me. (Nah, just kidding.)
Hey Mike, Jim Lawlis here. I totally remember you and I totally remember enjoying playing with you. It's been 35 years? No way! I did correspond once or twice with big Jim in the early days of the web, but then sadly he was gone. He was truly one-of-a-kind. I hope life in Los Angeles has been good to you. There's nothing like what we had in Toronto at the moment. The era of a great big wildly creative house band is long gone. Anyhow, if you have any cassettes or any kind of memorabilia concerning that band, it will be great to listen to it and reminisce. Thanks so much for your trouble in replying. Take care JL. jimlawlis@rogers.com
I have no idea how old this conversation is, but I too played in that band. Matthew Brunke here. I remember we did a segment on a show called That's Life on Global, and another one on Channel 47 that was an entire gig I think. I too would LOVE to hear any recordings of that band! Either of y'all, feel free to contact me @ matthewbrunke1@gmail.com
It's odd that this page shows the time of day the posts were made but not the date. I don't know what month or even the year you left these messages. Today is June 23, 2016. I do have recordings of this band, probably including some from the Toronto years. (Jim eventually moved to Los Angeles, and I have some live recordings done here.) I'll try to get some to you guys, at least to those of you who have left email contact info. Jim was the real deal, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm glad to forward his music to anyone who's interested. It's satisfying to know that you might pass it around into the future.
Feel free to make contact, if you feel inclined...

Hi, again, Michael. Yes, you're right - no date appearing on the published posts. How weird is that? The dates do show up on my administrator's list of posts, so just to recap:
I started the thread (with the borrowed photo of Jim Eaves from bassist Bob Lee at www.bassland.net) on March 5, 2005(!), then Jim Lawlis commented on April 23, 2015 (just over a decade later - haha). Then you commented on June 24/15, and Jim Lawlis commented again on July 20, 2015. More recently, Matthew Brunke and you commented on June 23/16 (yesterday).
I hope the three of you get in touch with each other, and thanks for visiting my blog (which has pretty much been abandoned since last year, for personal reasons).
Diane (with too many aliases to mention - although I AM on FB under Misty Blue 1955 - haha).
I felt like I was time travelling as I read this post about Jim and his band at The Upper Lip. Not only was it a long time ago, the ten year interval between the posts was wild. I sang back up with Linda Hanchar. Great band!

And I forgot to credit YOU for the photo, too! He reminds me a bit of Ronnie Hawkins - haha.
