Great Big Rock Jam Report:

Among the extensive and female-heavy line-up for the 2012 Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival are Amelia Curran, Vishten, Danette Eddy, The Rosalines, Qristina and Quinn Bachand, Jenny Gear, w/Sandy Morris & Billy Sutton, Powerhouse, The All-Stars, Emily Andrews, Valerie Hewson, Allen Byrne & Holly Hogan, The Violin Femmes, and Bowline (a trio comprised of Charlotte-Anne Malischewski, Fergus Brown-O’Byrne, and Duncan Cameron).  Bowline will, in fact, be coming into the on-air studios here at CHMR around 9 a.m. this morning for a chat and/or live performance during the broadcasting of “Rockin’ the Blues from Canada”, so I hope you can stay tuned in for that.  For a complete listing of scheduled performances, visit nlfolk.com.

New female Canadian music releases include Rebecca Lappa’s Myths and Monsters; Muneshine’s There Is Only Today; Michelle Simpson’s On the Road Again; Sherry Ryan’s Sister of Mine; Rose Cousins’ We Have Made a Spark, and Alexa D’Entremont’s Edge of Gone.  You can check out a more extensive listing of recent releases by both male and female Maritime artists at EastCoastKitchenParty.net, as well as at eastcoastblues.ca.  If you are situated in St. John’s and would like to join the newly-created and very informal St. John’s Antisocial Blues Conspiracy, visit nlbluessociety.blogspot.com.

GOODWILL GAMING  (GWG) FUNDRAISER FOR EASTER SEALS NL

Hey, Folks.

A few of us at CHMR 93.5 FM also volunteer with Goodwill Gaming, an NPO that raises money for various charities. This weekend, we are raising money for Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador, and all proceeds go to supporting programs and services for children and youth with disabilities.

You can watch, chat, and donate all at http://www.goodwillgaming.org. It's an 80-hour video game marathon, and we're just over halfway.

Help us, help them!

Thanks,

John

BENEFIT FOR MATHEW FINES @ THE RED DOG (PETERBOROUGH) - JULY 15

July 15! The Big Benefit for my brother, Mathew Fines, has just been posted by the Red Dog Tavern in Peterborough, ON! Everybody wants to play to help him out, as he recovers from surgery to fight colon cancer, and the list is growing. I wasn't responsible for putting together the matinee (3-6:30) that will be predominantly bluegrass and country, but those musicians are lined up and I'll be posting them early next week. Meanwhile the evening performance (7-midnight) will consist of Washboard Hank, Cris Cuddy, Bobby Watson, Burgess Shale, Rick and Gaillie, Apex, Meteor Empire (with Mat's son, Erik!)... Of course I will be playing with lots of friends.. the list is huge, I'll leak more names next week... Contact me directly if you want to help at the event....
