Nicholas Marchione
At age 25, trumpet player Nick Marchione is an active freelancer in New York City, holding down some of the most coveted chairs in his profession, including lead trumpet in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and ‘The Producers’ on Broadway.
Born into a musical family in Philadelphia, Nick started his trumpet studies at age eight with his father, Tony Marchione, a renowned teacher whose pupils included Randy Brecker and Lee Morgan.
He subsequently studied with Vince Penzarella at the Mannes College of Music before becoming a member of Blood, Sweat and Tears in 2001, a position he held until 2006.
Nick has played and recorded with such legends as Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Jimmy Heath, Bob Brookmeyer, Natalie Cole and James Moody, to name a few.
He currently tours as a member of Ottawa's Paul Anka Band [well, I can forgive him for that association - haha - DD].
Most recently, Nick played lead alongside Snooky Young in the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra at Washington D.C’s Kennedy Center and performed with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (VJO) at the Bermuda Jazz Festival.
The VJO's latest CD, Up from the Skies: Music of Jim McNeely, was nominated for two Grammys, and the band will be touring Europe and Scandinavia for three weeks this coming summer.
An avid educator, Nick Marchione has given masterclasses throughout the United States and Canada. This March, he will be a featured guest clinician for the Orquestra Jazz Matosinhos in Portugal during a week-long festival featuring the music of Thad Jones.
Nick is also frequently requested to play movie soundtracks and jingles. He can be heard playing lead trumpet in the movie soundtrack of ‘The Producers’, several commercials for Coke and Pepsi, and the upcoming Broadway production of ‘The Little Mermaid’.
