ARTS COURT PRESENTS CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE - DEC. 13

Music for Young Children Helps Make Music Soup
A Special Event at Arts Court for Kids Aged Two to Six

The team at Music for Young Children will be serving up something special this holiday season. MYC has partnered with Arts Court, Ottawa’s centre for the performing, visual, literary and media arts for Arts Court Presents a Holiday Helping of Music Soup starring Jen Gould.

The Juno Award – winning artist takes to the Arts Court Theatre stage, located at 2 Daly Avenue, for two shows, 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 13th, 2009. Children, aged two to six and their adult accompaniment, will delight in some of Gould’s best-loved tunes such as: Monster in my Closet, Yummy in my Tummy and her Tango-inspired version of the Three Little Pigs, as well as a host of other Music Soup songs and holiday favourites.

But the fun doesn’t end there, before and after the show, concert-goers are also welcome to experience a magical Winter Wonderland located in the Arts Court Studio. People can chow down on cookies and coco while chatting with a snowflake or gingerbread man, win a prize playing one of the many festive games on site, try out a musical instrument or two with the help of teachers from the MYC family or purchase last-minute gift items from local artists at the child-friendly Arts Market, all for the cost of $15 and a can of soup for the Ottawa Food Bank.

The special Music Soup performances by Jen Gould are being recorded for an upcoming live concert DVD, scheduled for release in Spring 2010. Children will be able to relive the excitement of this concert over and over, as well as enjoy special created features on the menu including: comic vignettes, music videos, and an interactive musical game based on MYC teaching principles. A percentage of the profits from the children’s video is being donated to the Ottawa Arts Court Foundation to help them to continue to support local artists and capital improvement projects. Make sure to keep watching for the special DVD launch party to be held in Ottawa this coming March.

Jen Gould's inaugural album, Music Soup, won “Children’s Album of the Year” at the 2008 Juno Awards and has sold upwards of 25,000 copies. The classically- trained actress is no stranger to success. She’s performed on some of the finest stages in Canada and the United States including: five seasons at the Stratford Festival, The National Arts Centre and the New York City Center on Broadway. Gould has also provided voices for many children’s cartoons, on popular shows such as: Rolie Polie Olie, Sailor Moon, Totally Spies and The Busytown Mysteries to name a few.

Arts Court’s Holiday Helping of Music Soup is a chance to sing, dance, play, eat, drink, shop and be merry, all under one roof! It’s a holiday event you and your kids won’t want to miss. Seating is limited and tickets are going fast so make sure to order yours today through the Arts Court Box-Office: 613-564-7240. Cost of admission is only $15 and a can of soup.
