SHAKURA S'AIDA AT MAJOR JAZZ FESTIVALS IN CANADA AND ITALY

Media Information - For Immediate Release [late posting]

Toronto-based singer set to make European impact after success in Canada and the U.S.

With an appearance set at the Toronto Jazz Festival (tomorrow, June 27, with Bill King’s Saturday Night Fish Fry) and at the Montreal International Jazz Festival (July 2, with her own band), Toronto-based Shakura S’Aida moves on to play the St. Jerome Music Festival, the Mont Tremblant Blues Festival and the Ottawa Blues Festival.

And then she leaves for no less than nine festivals throughout Italy, where she’ll be performing with an Italian group, the Morblus Band. Her festival tour is her second trip to Europe this year, following dates in Germany, Holland, Belgium and France in April and May.

Between shows, S’Aida is preparing songs for a new recording to follow her successful debut, Blueprint. Her international success — she has a six-week tour in France in November and December — followed her second-place win, at the beginning of the year, at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Thomas Ruf, president of the German Ruf Records blues label, was one of the judges — and has been instrumental in introducing her to European promoters and festival organizers.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in half a dozen U.S cities and in Switzerland, the multi-lingual S'Aida has been based in Toronto for some 20 years, where she frequently acts in television and film productions — most recently a feature role in an installment of the new CTV series, "Flashpoint".
