TANTRAMARSH BLUES SOCIETY (SACKVILLE, NB) - NEWSLETTER (SEPT./08)

Dear Friends,

We have a wonderful fall jazz and blues lineup for you:

On Wednesday, September 10th, the 2008 Sackville Cultural Capitals Project and the Catbird Jazz Society present the 2008 National Jazz Award-winning "Female Vocalist of the Year" Emilie-Claire Barlow, as well as Remi-Jean LeBlanc's exciting groove band, at the beautiful Sackville United Church, 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $18, and may be purchased at Tidewater Books and Live Bait Theatre, or through www.ticketpro.ca.

On Saturday, September 20th, we have Maritime favourite Matt Anderson and his band in the free Fall Fair tent on Bridge Street. New Brunswick's Matt Andersen has an enigmatic personality coupled with a larger than life showmanship that has been earning him a fervent and steadfast audience wherever he graces the stage. Matt's sprawling Blues, Roots and Rock Musical hybrid with his sorrowing and soulful voice has sparked a phenomenal buzz on the east coast, as has the grassroots word of mouth from his followers, a.k.a ‘Matt-Heads!’ For more on Matt, please see http://www.stubbyfingers.ca.

On Saturday, October 18th, TBS presents Eddie Shaw and the Wolf Gang. Eddie Shaw is a Chicago mainstay who managed and fronted Howlin' Wolf's band for many years. Prior to this, Eddie has played with Muddy Waters, Ike Turner, and Little Milton, among many others. Eddie's mean tenor saxophone can be seen and heard in the recent John Sayles movie "Honeydripper", and you can be sure that he and his band (which includes his son, Eddie Vann Shaw, who plays a fiery guitar that perfectly complements his father's sax) will shake the rafters at George's.

On Saturday, October 31st, Catbird Jazz presents the great Canadian jazz legend Don Thompson and his Quartet in Brunton Auditorium. This is very exciting show for us, as Don has not toured for some years. The other musicians in the group are Phil Dwyer (saxes), Jim Vivian (bass), and the great Terry Clarke (drums). It sounds like Don himself will be sticking to the piano, and perhaps vibes, on this tour.

On Friday, November 14th, we have the Guy Davis Trio. Guy has always been a TBS favourite, with numerous memorable returns to the Roadhouse. But this time he comes back with a twist...and that twist is a band that is going to allow him to play music from his CD that he has never been able to play as a solo artist. So don't miss this rare opportunity to catch Guy doing everything that he has done so well in the past for us...and more! For more on Guy, please see http://www.guydavis.com/.

We also have a fine winter schedule that is shaping up already, and will share those details with you as soon as we can. Thanks for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at the shows.
