BENEFIT @ SWISS PUB (TACOMA, WA) FOR GUITARIST MARK WHITMAN

Please show up at The Swiss Pub in Tacoma, WA, this Sunday for a benefit for Northwest legendary blues man Mark Whitman, who needs our help with some heavy medical expenses. The show includes Becki Sue & her Big Rockin' Daddies! at 7 pm, followed by Big Nasty, The Fabulous Wailers and at the end an all-star jam led by Billy Barner, Billy Shew and Jeff Mason! This should be a rockin' show for a great cause!

The latest review of Becki Sue & her Big Rockin' Daddies!' new disc, BIG CITY BLUES, is out and it's another sterling evaluation! This one is from the Dec '07/Jan '08 issue of "The World's Blues Magazine", Blues Revue. If you subscribe to this fabulous magazine, or are planning on going out and getting one (do it!). Please also check out the wonderful artwork of Seattle's own Phil Chesnut in our 1/4-page ad on page 13.

Here's the review, word for word. Enjoy!!!

Some of the toughest Texas-style blues around comes from Olympia, Washington’s Becki Sue & her Big Rockin’ Daddies!. Becki Sue’s powerful vocals recall those of Angela Strehli; the Daddies! are a tight four-piece combo capable of sounding larger, thanks to Jim King’s double duty on sax and harmonica. Les White (bass) and Jeff Hayes (drums) execute propulsive shuffles, while Tom "T-Boy" Boyle’s stiletto guitar seamlessly interweaves rhythm and lead parts. "Cut You Loose" and "You’re Killin’ Me" rumble and rev like street racers; "Pardon Me" is a thundering Gulf Coast shuffle; and "If You Let Me Call You Sweetheart" turns the beat backwards. The Daddies! nail Elmore James’ "The Sun Is Shining" with a serious slow-blues treatment, while "Maybe" and a honking take on King Curtis’ "Soul Serenade" fill the R&B ballad slots. There’s no mystery why Becki Sue & company were favorites at the International Blues Competition. All the live excitement translates to their self-released BIG CITY BLUES.
