THE FLORIDA RAZORS REUNITE FOR SOLDIERS @ CASBAH - AUG. 22

When: Saturday August 22, 2009

Where: Casbah, 306 King St W, Hamilton, ON || 905-521-4441

What: FLORIDA RAZORS!

HAMILTON, ON - July 7, 2009

Before Junkhouse, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Sons of the Hammer and his current project, Lee Harvey Osmond, he was the front man for 80’s rock n’rollers THE FLORIDA RAZORS. Yes, none other than Tom Wilson, one of Hamilton’s finest sons. For one special night, Tom reunites with fellow Razor bandmates Jason Avery (guitar), Greg Cannon (drums) and Carl Keesee (bass), all in support of our troops wounded in Afghanistan.

After emceeing the first "Thank you from the Heart of the Hammer" show in May, Tom didn’t hesitate when approached about doing a Razor Reunion for the troops. The only obstacle was his busy summer schedule and making sure Carl, who now resides in Texas, could fit the date into his annual summer visit.

Formed in the early '80s, The Florida Razors had a large following, packing clubs and festivals in Hamilton, London, Kingston, Ottawa and points in between. With two albums, Beat Music and Half a Rock n Roll Record, to their credit, the CD, Beat Music – The Essential Collection, was released on Bullseye Records in August 2000. The last formal reunion was in August 2002 for a fundraiser for Hamilton Challenger Baseball; however, there was an impromptu reunion in August 2007 during one of Tom’s solo shows in that year.

Proceeds from the Thank You from The Heart of The Hammer benefit concert - August 22 - at The Casbah will again be donated to WoundedWarriors.ca. The Fund assists wounded soldiers and their families coping with the hardship of their injuries. There are more than 400 wounded Canadian soldiers that go unnoticed.

WoundedWarriors.ca was created in 2006 to fill a gap in the military support system. Captain Wayne Johnston discovered medical staff and support people were digging into their own pockets to provide supplies and out-of-pocket expense for soldiers and their families sent to Germany to recuperate from their war injuries.

“The fund was started because we noticed in Germany that many of the troops had very little of their own items”, said Captain Johnston. Woundedwarriors.ca has none other than Don Cherry as their spokesperson.

Thank You from The Heart of The Hammer is the second in the 2-concert series in support of WoundedWarriors.ca and organized by Kathy Cannon and John Ricci. The first show, in May 2009, raised over $2200.00 for the charity. Event founders Kathy and John hope that other cities will pick up on their idea.

"We need to raise awareness for our troops as well as the charity. By raising that awareness we hope that Thank You concerts will take place in cities and towns across our country”, she said.

For that intimate rock n’ roll atmosphere, the August 22nd reunion is being held at the Casbah Lounge, 306 King Street West (at Queen Street) in Hamilton, ON.

Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at: The Casbah, online @ Casbahlounge.ca, Dr. Disc or Picks & Sticks Music

Further information on the charity can be found on their website, www.woundedwarriors.ca, or through Capt. Wayne Johnston - Johnston.gw@forces.gc.ca.
