Catherine MacLellan to Perform at The Blacksheep - June 14

Toronto, ON -- Catherine MacLellan has become one of the most celebrated new singer /songwriters in Canada. She derives her talent as a singer/songwriter from a natural source: her father, Gene MacLellan, is a Canadian music legend and author of such songs as “Snowbird,” a huge international hit for Anne Murray; and “Put Your Hand in the Hand,” which has been recorded by Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Donny Hathaway and Loretta Lynn, among many others.

MacLellan is already a huge critical favorite not only in her native country, but around the world as well. She was voted “Critics’ Favorite New Discovery” by Canada’s Penguin Eggs Magazine in 2008. Her last album, Church Bell Blues, hit #1 on the iTunes Canada Roots Chart and such publications as Q, The Boston Globe and Austin Chronicle sang her praises. UK’s Maverick magazine perhaps summed it up best: “It is Catherine’s voice that strikes you first. Pure and haunting, it caresses softly, insinuating itself into your heart and just won’t let go.” She’s toured with Bruce Cockburn in the U.S. Steve Forbert in the UK, and showcased in Paris, Cannes, Berlin, New York, London and Memphis.

Her new CD Water in the Ground features a lighter, more cheerful mood than some of her previous albums, with songs at once both personal and universal in their scope and appeal. Special guests on the new CD include some of the most prominent roots musicians in Canada, such as Treassa Levasseur, Justin Rutledge and David Baxter.
