Disturbing the Myth of the Evil Stepmother. June 12 - July 12.
The Other Mother, Karen Piovaty's best known and socially relevant
artwork, promotes conversation and reflection; provokes both
vilification and vindication. If it does, in fact, take a village to raise a child.
The artwork confronts this contemporary village to examine the
motives behind victimization, vindictiveness and excessive litigation.
The origins of The Other Mother spring from Piovaty's own experiences as a
stepmother, second wife and adult child of divorce. www.othermother.com
In conjunction with the exhibition, the Brantford Arts Block
presents a 5-part Sunday Speak Series on Divorce starting June 14.
On Sunday, June 21, Piovaty presents a visual comedy:
Mistakes I Made and Lessons I Learned.
