JULIAN’S JUNO AWARD HAS ARRIVED

Last Tuesday ANDREW GALLOWAY came to Gate 403 with JULIAN FAUTH’s JUNO statuette. It had just arrived at Electro-Fi Records and Andrew brought it over to Julian. Very cool to see this award for real.

Did you know that each JUNO statuette is individually hand crafted for the winners?

It’s true. There is not some warehouse full of mass produced JUNO awards just waiting to be engraved with the winners’ names. Nope. The award that winners receive on stage in person (or not) is a stand-in. Each winner’s personal award is individually made by glass blower Shirley Elford of Stoney Creek, Ontario, and sent to the winners a couple of months after the awards ceremony.

The JUNO statuette depicts a human body, encircled by a music staff, standing on top of the world, each one a unique piece of art.

We will get a photo of Julian with his JUNO and attach it to this newsletter ASAP.

JULIAN’S DAKOTA TAVERN CONCERT, TAPED BY CBC, COMING UP SOON

CBC Radio will be recording Julian’s concert at the Dakota Tavern for broadcast on Canada Live. The date is Saturday June 13, from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. The Dakota is located at 249 Ossington Avenue (at Dundas Street West) in Toronto. You can reserve tickets in advance ($10 per) by emailing wexfordmusic@gmail.com. It would be a good idea to do so. The Dakota has a cool vibe and great acoustics, but it only holds about 130 people. A large percentage of tickets are already reserved, and after the press and such get their comps, the number of remaining tickets will be limited.

Right after the JUNO awards there were impromptu celebrations at Gate 403 and Axis, each one jammed with well wishers. Thank you so much to everyone who attended.

The Dakota gig on June 13 is really the first opportunity for an “official” celebration. And what is more, it will be taped by CBC Radio. Canada Live goes out across the country. So come on out and make your mark. Send a shout out to the rest of Canada about JULIAN FAUTH.

CURLEY BRIDGES NEW CD JUST RELEASED

The night that Andrew brought over Julian’s JUNO he gave me a copy of the latest CD by blues icon CURLEY BRIDGES. “Live at the Silver Dollar Room” was recorded January 17 in honour of Curley’s 75th birthday. Each track is excellent, though I especially like “Where Did My Baby Go”, “Walk On”, “3 O’clock Blues”, “Mr. Rock ‘n Soul” and “Give Me One Reason”. Julian opened that show and dedicated a great boogie version of Happy Birthday to Curley, which is also on the CD. You can order the album via www.electrofi.com.

TRACY K SUMMER GIGS AND POSTERS

While I’m in the mood to shamelessly promote my favorite blues artists, I just got to announce Tracy K is returning to the Toronto area, playing Hollywood on the Queensway on June 4, Gate 403 on June 5, the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival on June 6 and the Orillia Spring Blues Festival on June 12. OK, so Orillia is not really in the Toronto area, but it is not a long drive and well worth the effort to experience Tracy K. You can check out her other shows this summer as well as all other things Tracy K at www.tracyk.ca.

Attached to this newsletter are posters about a couple of Tracy’s shows. Please feel free to download, forward, print and post them.
